Any Internet user will have a better experience by browsing an interactive website. You can make your own website more attractive by adding various applications like games, news or any other scripts that involve live interactions between the visitors and website pages. There are many free solutions
to add such applications to your website, like Google Gadgets.

Google Gadgets are simple applications made with Javascript and HTML code that can be included in any website. If your website is driven by a content management system like Joomla!, Drupal or WordPress the integration of custom code into your web pages can be made directly or with specific add-ons. In the case of Joomla! CMS, many modules are available and they could be used to include various Google Gadgets into your website.

If you will select Joomla Mod PHP, it will allow you to integrate PHP, HTML, Javascript and CSS code to any available modules position inside your template. First, you must go to the Google Gadgets homepage to select the desired applications that you want to include in your website page(s). After you install Joomla Mod PHP, select its appropriate entry in the Module Manager page, paste the corresponding script for the chosen gadget and publish it in the desired free module position.

New wordpress exploit

Posted in CMS by Administrator on March 28th, 2008

A new exploit that you should be aware of it the one that creates a folder inside of your wp-content, folder called simply /1/. This folder, in most of the cases, seems to be containing web pages (static ones ) containing text related to gabling and just a single JS document, that in some cases does a redirection.

All the static html pages nested in folder wp-content/1/ folder are spammy pages that may harm your website Search Engine rankings, even if you do not link to this folder.

More informations you can read here, on UK Webmaster World Forums, where this was announced.

Windows Search 4.0 Preview

Posted in Windows by Administrator on March 28th, 2008

With Windows Vista Service Pack 1 available to the general public as of March 18, 2008, and with Windows XP SP3 having hit RC2 Refresh stage, Microsoft made available Windows Search 4.0 Preview, designed to take the search capabilities of the two platforms to the next level. The Preview build of Windows Search 4.0 is designed to integrate seamlessly with both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Vista RTM and SP1, XP SP2 and SP3 and Windows Server 2003 and even
Windows Home Server. Despite the fact that in terms of search capabilities Vista brings a consistent evolution to the table compared to XP, the Windows Search 4.0 Preview will enhance the default functionality of even Vista SP1.

On March 27, 2008, Microsoft delivered a “little ‘preview’ of the next step for Windows Search. The Windows Search Team is making available Windows Search 4.0 Preview – a preview of the next version of desktop search for Windows,” said Nick White, Windows Vista Program Manager. According to White, the Redmond company has focused its efforts on dealing with the bugs that were reported via end user feedback. Microsoft approximated that the majority of the issues associated with Vista RTM have been fixed.

WIPO ousts record number of ‘cybersquatters’

Posted in Domains by Administrator on March 28th, 2008

The World Intellectual Property Organization ousted a record number of “cybersquatters” from Web sites with domain names referring to trademarked companies, foundations, and celebrities in 2007.

WIPO, a U.N. agency based in Geneva, received 2,156 complaints alleging “abusive registration of trademarks on the Internet” last year, up 18 percent from 2006 and 48 percent more than the filings lodged in 2005.

“These increases confirm that ‘cybersquatting’ remains a significant issue for rights holders,” Francis Gurry, WIPO’s deputy director-general, said Thursday.

Most complaints came from the pharmaceutical, banking, telecommunications, retail, and entertainment sectors.

Drugmakers were the top filers “due to numerous permutations of protected names registered for Web sites offering or linking to online sales of medications and drugs,” WIPO said.

Last year’s domain name disputes involved a wide range of products, events, and people–including Airbus’s A380 jet, the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Harvard Business School, Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong foundation, talk show host Oprah Winfrey, and television show The Simpsons.

A quarter of cases were settled without a WIPO panel decision. Of the remainder, in 85 percent of cases the panels transferred the disputed domain names to the complainant, and in 15 percent the panel ordered no change of the site registration.

Most domain name complainants came from the United States, France and Britain, while respondents were mainly based in the United States, Britain and China, WIPO said.
