How to change web hosting.
If you consider the possibility of changing web hosting, you are not the only one. By statistics more than 50 per cent off all existing web sites has changed their hosting at least one time. The reasons of changing hosting provider could be as follows:
- You are not satisfied with quality of services, that your hosting providers suggests
- You have found a cheaper provider
- Provider’s help desk do not assure the needed support
- Provider has changed his price politic
Despite you can understand the necessity of changing provider; you can be stopped by your uncertainty about how to do it. There are some useful tips for you.
- Make a complete copy of your web site. For this purpose you can use some FTP manger, smartFTP for example, for download the full version of your web site on your PC. It is necessary, because you could haven’t got all files on your PC, as you have added on your web sites some scripts, taken directly from the Internet. If you use Dreamweaver use command GET, to copy all files. If you use FrontPage, than use the function “import” to make a full copy of old web site.
- Then you can choose new web hosting.
- To migrate your domain name. Get in touch with company, where you have registered you domain name and change your DNS (domain name service). Some time your web site will be unavailable for the users, while DNS changing is processing and information about a new DNS is registered on all world wide servers WHOIS. It can take 24 hours – 72 hours.
- Upload all files on the server of new hosting. It should be made after you make sure, that the domain name is transferred successfully. If you use Dreamweaver firstly set the web site and then use the PUT command for transfer all files and web pages. If you use Front page – than firstly create a new web site of transferred files and then place it on the server of your new provider. Make sure, that new hosting allows using FrontPage file extension.
- Migration of pages on new hosting. The other way of moving on the pages is to copy the code. For this click with right button of the mouse on your page and choose HTML code lookup, then you move your text in Notepad. Than select “save file as” and save the file as HTML file in the wanted place. This allows you to get a web page that can be placed wherever you want. But if the page contains the pictures, you’ll have to save them separately.
- Web site editing. Some times the appearance of your new web site can have some differences with the old one. This happens commonly if t\you use FrontPage. May be you will have to change or delete the issue code for recreate completely your site.
- As soon as domain name and all files were transferred, you should test all services, to check their workability. If all works well you can deny the services of your previous hosting provider.
